Having walked or shopped your way around Bath in the cold December weather your room at Dukes will provide you with a warm and cosy retreat from the elements. Our log fire and candles will be lit in the main reception area welcoming you on your return.  Freshly brewed tea or a mug of hot chocolate will be made for you on request to warm you after your busy day Christmas shopping in Bath.

Bath has an enjoyable mixture of unique independent retailers as well as a great number of well-known high street brands. Jolly’s department store, which was first opened in 1810 as a Linen Store by Mr Jolly and Sons, is still known today as Jolly’s. However, today Jolly’s offers you a wealth of fashion and home furnishings, cosmetics and other fashion and beauty concessions, the store is now under the ‘House of Fraser’ umbrella one of Britain’s leading department stores.

With Bath’s late-night shopping from mid-November and a creative and interesting Christmas Market you’ll be able to shop until you drop. Bath also has an ice rink during the Christmas period which is located just a short walk from Dukes central location on Great Pulteney Street.

Even better though, would be to unwind in the Thermae Spa rooftop pool overlooking the twinkling Christmas lights before returning to the warm surroundings of Dukes. We would be delighted if you would join us for pre-dinner drinks before heading out to one of Bath’s many top restaurants.

At Dukes we really mean luxury bed and breakfast, especially if you choose one of our four poster rooms! Waking up in stylish surroundings before indulging in a sumptuous breakfast is the ideal way to begin another day of Christmas shopping. After a continental or English breakfast with us you may wish to try something different for lunch; why not try The Thai Balcony in the heart of town or hunker down in a cosy pub. There are lots of carol concerts at Bath Abbey during Advent and the Christmas atmosphere is hard to beat.

If you are still hungry for more shopping then the aforementioned Christmas Market, the first to be awarded a ‘Visit England VAQAS’ award in 2012, transforms the streets of Bath for 18 days during December. The market is situated amongst the streets and square between Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths and is so beautiful it really is a shopping experience not to be missed.

There are more than 140 beautiful wooden chalets filling the streets with a wealth of stalls, each offering handmade and unique gifts, decorations and festive food produce. The market comes alive with street entertainment and a Victorian Carousel for all to enjoy. All this is set against a beautiful Georgian vista so you are bound to find yourself absorbed into the Christmas magic in Bath.

With this being a popular festive attraction which usually starts toward the end of November to mid-December, finding accommodation in Bath can prove challenging with such high demand, so we advise that you plan and book your room at Dukes early to avoid disappointment.

Christmas entertainment in Bath in the past has included ‘Carols by Candlelight’ performed by the Bach Choir as well as theatre productions at the Theatre Royal where Snow White was a big hit. With a track record of Christmas celebrations getting bigger and better year on year, there really is no better place to buy your presents and celebrate in a magical atmosphere.

In addition to the Christmas market there are six other shopping zones in Bath, all of which are just around the corner from Dukes and close to each other, making them easy to navigate between. The central shopping area in Bath is comprised of classic high street names as well as an eclectic selection of jewellers, antique shops and art galleries.

If you are in the market for something a little more special then Milsom Place is the ideal location if fashion is the name of the game. Milsom Place was awarded 'Britain's Best Fashion Street' in 2010 and will therefore cater for all your designer cravings. Upper Town includes some of Bath’s best examples of Georgian architecture and is home to many famous and thriving independent boutiques, antique shops and galleries.

The Southgate area is a spacious new shopping destination, home to a multitude of retailers for you to choose from. Bath still boasts an Artisan Quarter, filled with quirky retailers set in a vibrant and creative area, brimming with purveyors of reclaimed antiques, furniture and crafts. Close to the Artisan Quarter is the Western Area of Bath which is home to many local traders selling items such as local produce and leather goods.  The main attraction of this area is Bath’s Green Park Station which, historically offered trains to the Midlands though now hosts the Farmers’ Market every Saturday. The Bath Fringe Festival also takes place under the magnificent barrel arches of this Grade II listed 1870's architectural gem.

Whichever area of Bath you decide to visit over the course of your stay at Dukes, the sheer beauty of Bath at Christmas endears itself to the Christmas shopper.  Luxury accommodation, free parking, hearty breakfasts and log fires are just some of the reasons why your Christmas shopping weekend in Bath at Dukes will be the perfect build up to the 25th December.  We look forward to seeing you in the run up to Christmas.
