Dukes Bath City Centre Accommodation of Georgian Splendour
Our guest house in Bath city centre gracefully displays its original Georgian splendour offering 17 beautiful, individually styled rooms, each of which have been named after famous Dukes. This continues the historical and regal references of the building – Great Pulteney Street where Dukes guest house was commissioned by Sir William Pulteney and completed in 1789. Numbers 53 and 54 Great Pulteney Street were originally two grand private residencies, then a school and in 1919 the properties were joined to create St Monica’s Hotel. Since 1985 it had been known as Dukes Hotel, named after His Grace the Duke of Clevedon.
During the latter part of 2012 changes arose, a boutique bed and breakfast evolved and we realised our intentions by renaming it more simply as Dukes.
Dukes Central Bath Hotel – Staying and Playing in Bath
This is one of the only guest houses in Bath, Somerset offering the contemporary comforts expected from a five star, boutique bed and breakfast whilst residing within a spacious Georgian property. There is no requirement to book a minimum of two nights, and with a cooked to order breakfast included it makes for a simple, relaxed and affordable place to stay. The building has a warm, welcoming ambience and style, and is ideally located, being minutes away from the attractions that the city has to offer. Dukes is perfect for Bath weekend breaks especially if you are travelling from London, Bristol, Exeter or Cheltenham, all just a few hours away by car or train.
Dukes Luxury Guest House Bath – A Home from Home Experience
At Dukes it’s not just about the luxurious Georgian surroundings, excellent service and hospitality but the additional little extras that make your stay all the more special and homely. After a day of travelling or sightseeing, we have a range of mouth-watering specialities aimed at reviving and satisfying you. Our decadent afternoon tea, available by prior arrangement, will warm you with a pot of well-made speciality tea, homemade cream scones – a treat for everyone and especially loved by the children. Couples can indulge in pre-dinner drinks in our bar or courtyard garden before heading out to one of the many great restaurants that Bath has to offer. After your night out in the city we invite you (once again by prior arrangement) to take advantage of our ‘housekeeper’s pantry’ something truly unique to this guest house. This delight comprises a selection from our ‘Late Night Cheese Board’ complemented with a glass of Taylors 10 year old Port – an experience to rival any offered by hotels in the centre of Bath. Alternatively, biscuits and a mug of hot chocolate, especially for the younger members of your party, might be all that is needed before settling down for the night in your comfy bed.
Breakfast at Dukes – British, Continental and Vegetarian
We are very proud of our breakfast, which is served on the lower ground floor. Each breakfast is prepared by our professionally trained chef with three gourmet options available. Our classic ‘Full English’ option comprises a selection of produce including air dried smoked bacon, sausages, free range eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and ‘Stornoway’, a world famed black pudding, offering a ‘taste of the isles’. The Vegetarian option can include smoked poached haddock, smoked kippers and smoked salmon from Kingfisher of Paignton in Devon. Alternatively, choose large fresh, free range eggs cooked in any way you wish. We have home prepared pancakes with maple syrup, thick Greek yoghurt and homemade ‘red fruits compote’. We also cook to order traditional Scottish porridge with a wee dram of whisky and a sprinkling of brown sugar to energise you for the day. The Continental breakfast is offered with freshly percolated coffee and a selection of freshly prepared seasonal fruits, home baked croissants and sliced meats and cheese.
