Stay in Bath for Bath Marches this October
11 April 2020
We’re looking forward to when the crisis is under control and the lockdown is lifted, and so we’ve been looking at what events we have to look forward to later this year.
One of these is Bath Marches.
Bath Marches takes place on Saturday 3rd October this year (2020). It is two challenge walks (or “marches”) of nine and fifteen miles which will start and finish in the beautiful city of Bath. The aims of the event are:
- to demonstrate how spending time in the countryside is great fun and great for your health
- to highlight the gorgeous countryside around Bath
- to share the rich history of the area
- and to encourage more people to take up walking.
Not only will Bath Marches be a great opportunity to get into the great outdoors and take in the views over Bath, Bristol, the Brecon Beacons, and the Cotswolds, but also to raise money for charities via sponsorship.
The charities which have been chosen for the 2020 event are: the ABF, The Soldier’s Charity; The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity; and the RAF Benevolent Fund. The organisers are also inviting any other charity to enter walkers to raise funds for their individual causes too.
Along the routes the support team will encourage Marchers and share details of local, natural, and military history. The support team will be there to run the Team Challenges as well – challenges which teams can opt to take part in during the walk.
Along the way there will be snack stops, a photography competition - which competitors can enter on the day (the views are sure to be incredible), and the possibility of seeing kingfishers, peregrine falcons, roe deer and herons. Finally, all finishers will receive a Marcher’s Medal on crossing the finish line.
We’re hopeful that the lockdown will be over sooner rather than later. Even if it is later rather than sooner though, it’s still likely that it will be over by October, so maybe signing up to Bath Marches and planning a weekend in Bath is something you can do to give you something to look forward to!
