Romantic Hotels in Bath

Since the historic social seasons so extensively written about by Jane Austen, beginning in the late 1700s, people have flocked to Bath, often with romance in mind. The city today retains this tradition, so when it comes to romantic breaks, Bath is the ideal destination and Dukes is the perfect place to stay.

What makes us one of the most romantic hotels in Bath? Located in two original Georgian town houses, we have a range of large, uniquely styled bedrooms which are individually named after various Dukes, evoking the type of luxurious accommodation traditionally afforded to visitors of Bath over the years. With several four poster bedrooms and many rooms lavishly decorated in the Georgian style, these are rooms to enjoy spending time in and a real break from the stresses of modern life.

As a luxury bed and breakfast we can provide you with all you may require, with the furnishings and facilities most would only expect from a five star hotel. At Dukes we like to indulge our guests by providing elegant surroundings and service at affordable rates, allowing you to explore and indulge in all that Bath has to offer.

Relaxed Romantic Breaks in Bath

Relaxation is an important aspect of any romantic weekend. In winter you are welcome to relax in front of roaring open fire; or in the summer enjoy afternoon tea or a glass of champagne after a walk around some of Bath’s stunning parks. Bath’s world famous architecture, award winning restaurants and other attractions serve as a perfect backdrop for your weekend.

Bath offers a wonderful eclectic spectrum in the good food and wine department. Whether you favour the historic opulence of The Pump Room, Jamie’s Italian or modern British food at The Hole in the Wall, Bath is sure to have the ideal setting for your romantic weekend away.  In order to experience some of Bath’s gastronomic delights in style, we suggest pre-dinner drinks here at Dukes, with cheese, Port and biscuits on your return – or, better still, both.

Itineraries for a Romantic Weekend Break

It is impossible to appreciate all Bath has to offer over the course of a single weekend, however, we have put together a selection of highlights for you to consider during your romantic weekend away in Bath.

Taking the train to Bath Spa is a nice relaxed way to arrive in the city and also take in the beautiful West Country landscape at the same time. The train from London Paddington takes just under an hour and a half. We recommend the upgrade to first class which gives you first class lounge access in Paddington and complimentary food and drink, enabling you to travel in style. If you are coming from elsewhere by car we offer complimentary parking permits with all our rooms; which we do ask to be returned on checkout!

At Dukes we are more than happy to help prepare your room with flowers and champagne, or any other request you may have, to complement a warm welcome from us. We have a range of rooms to suit your needs but for an extra dash of luxury we recommend either our Deluxe Double room or four poster extravagance in either the Buccleuch or Athol rooms. Shopping in Bath has always been a delight with a fantastic blend of independent retailers as well as established brands such as Kurt Geiger and L.K. Bennett. Of course Jolly’s department store which opened in 1810 should not go without a mention. Dukes’ central location makes retail therapy an easy way to work up an appetite before enjoying a lunch at one of Bath’s many restaurants. Loch Fyne at the top of the Milsom Street is perfectly located for this. If shopping isn’t you cup of tea though, why not take a stroll around the city's many parks and enjoy a picnic overlooking some of its architectural Georgian gems.

The afternoon would be a perfect time to tour the historic Roman Baths but even better would be to check in to the Thermae Spa and enjoy Britain’s only natural thermal spa. Our reputation as one of the most romantic hotels in Bath is completed by our unique two hour spa treatment offer when you book your mid-week break with us. The Thermae Spa offers a broad range of treatments as well as a rooftop pool which is an ideal place to watch the sun go down before returning to Dukes for pre-dinner drinks. A trip to Bath’s Theatre Royal or simply a long supper before returning to Dukes for a nightcap would be the perfect way to finish the first day of your romantic weekend in Bath.

Breakfast at Dukes is a must – don’t miss out on our fantastic selection of locally sourced options. Nobody likes having to get up early on a Sunday so breakfasts here are served until the more leisurely hour of 10am. After the previous day's exploration of Bath you may wish to enjoy a different perspective on the city... from above. There are several hot air balloon companies in the area offering trips over the city and surrounding countryside, an experience that really is something to behold.

Once firmly back on the ground you may wish to either explore areas surrounding Bath, perhaps lunching at the stunning and atmospheric Ston Easton Park or visiting Wells Cathedral in England’s second smallest city where a delicious lunch can be found at Goodfellows or The Old Spot.  Naturally we would love you to return to Bath and maybe visit the Abbey or the Jane Austen Centre before, suitably, taking afternoon tea back at Dukes.

However you decide to spend your time, Dukes will assist you in every way possible to enjoy a memorable and romantic weekend in Bath.
