Dukes Guest House – The Breakfast Experience

Unlike most guest houses and bed and breakfasts in Bath Dukes has a dedicated, professionally trained chef preparing sumptuous breakfasts for our guests. Breakfast is served from 7.30am till 9.30am Monday to Friday.  During the weekend breakfast is a more casual affair, which is ideal for those on a romantic weekend break wanting a lie in, with service running from 8am to 10am. Regardless of the day, breakfast at Dukes is a relaxed and indulgent experience and one that you are encouraged to enjoy. In order for each guest to experience this to its full it is advised that if you are travelling in a large family group or party that all breakfast orders are received between 9.30 and 10am.

Classic ‘Full English’

Our British breakfast is designed to ‘set you up’ for the rest of the day and comes with sausages and bacon from Terry and Son of Bath, lightly seasoned mushrooms delicately dressed in extra virgin olive oil, fresh free range eggs, and plump red tomatoes seasoned and grilled with thyme. A proper British breakfast wouldn’t be complete without a good portion of black pudding and at Dukes only the best ‘Stornoway’, award winning, black pudding from Scotland is served.

Vegetarian

Dukes fully appreciate the need to cater for vegetarians, having vegetarians in our own family. The chef at Dukes takes great pride in making sure that the breakfasts are varied and flavoursome serving only the best smoked poached haddock, kippers and smoked salmon, all sourced through Kingfisher of Paignton in Devon. The eggs come as you like them, lightly scrambled, softly poached or fried any way up or down.  Every effort is made to make this a wholesome and delicious experience.

Continental

Sweet home baked pastries, toast and jams, cereals, muesli and yoghurt, light and fluffy croissants are the staples of the continental option. Freshly prepared seasonal fruits, delicate slices of cold meats and cheese are also served and washed down with oodles of freshly brewed coffee which in true Dukes style is possibly the best served in any of the guest houses in Bath.

If all this isn’t enough to tempt you, Dukes breakfast chef also offers you homemade pancakes served with a drizzling of the finest maple syrup and thick dollops of Greek yogurt complemented with homemade red fruit compote.  Here at Dukes we also have a reputation for our Scottish porridge oats, served with a sprinkle of rich brown sugar and a wee dram of whisky for the gourmet offering!

Catering for Allergies

At Dukes we cater for a variety of dietary requirements and are used to stocking a number of ‘free from’ products such as gluten free bread, salt free butter and soya milk. When booking online it is advised that you let us  know by completing the comment box on the online form so that we may prepare in advance and make sure that, given the appropriate notice and information, we can best accommodate your request.

The Breakfast Room

The breakfast room is located on the lower ground floor, close to the kitchen and just below pavement level, providing a tantalising glimpse of historic Great Pulteney Street and what the future day withholds.

Whilst breakfast at Dukes guest house in Bath is a generous and indulgent feast in itself, dining in the basement of this magnificent Georgian town house is an experience not to be missed.

If you like to read the paper at breakfast, this can be ordered on the day of your arrival. After breakfast you may read at your leisure by the burning log fire in the beautiful reception.
